Termite Control
A long swarm season, two very different treatment methods, and three kinds of warranty worth reading closely.
Learn about Termite ControlThe oldest housing in the city, some of it two centuries old, standing on brick piers over shallow crawl spaces. Mature hardwoods hold so much shade that roofs, porches and foundation walls stay wet long after a storm.
Few parts of the city hold as much old wood as Haymount. The historic district covers roughly 40 acres of mostly houses built between about 1817 and 1950, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival among them, including the Robert Strange Town House from around 1817 and the 1926 Highsmith Memorial Hospital building. Brick piers, dirt crawl spaces, wood sitting close to grade and hardwoods old enough to lean over a roof add up to carpenter ants, squirrels in soffits, roaches in the older kitchens and termite evidence that predates the current owner. This is a district rather than a town, so anything visible from the street can run into historic review, while the work that actually matters happens under the floor where nobody sees it.
Housing age, groundwater, and the season all feed into it. This is the picture specific to Haymount.
The stock in Haymount runs to dwellings from about 1817 to 1950, queen anne through colonial revival, on brick piers and shallow crawl spaces. Weep holes, siding starter strips and utility penetrations all sit low to the ground on builds like these, which is exactly the height roaches and rodents work once the ground stays damp.
Deep shade from mature hardwoods keeps roofs, porches and foundation walls slower to dry after summer storms. Nothing here gets killed off by a frost, so the useful question is never what is active today but what is building for next month.
Ranges rather than a single number, because the honest figure depends on what the inspection finds. There is no charge for that inspection.
| Service | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
| Termite Control | an estimated $425–$1350 |
| Crawl Space Encapsulation | an estimated $265–$825 |
| Wildlife Removal | an estimated $175–$525 |
| Cockroach Control | an estimated $95–$275 |
The creek that gave downtown its original name runs through the town center below the hill, and damp low ground there is a rodent and mosquito reservoir.
Restaurant and commercial waste a short distance downhill supports roach and rodent populations that work their way up into residential blocks.

Taped seams, wrapped piers, a curtain wall up the block, closed vents, and a dehumidifier that matches the square footage.
Learn about Crawl Space Encapsulation
Largely carpentry with an animal in the middle of it, plus one date range in this state that nobody gets to negotiate.

One walks in from the pine straw and the bath trap. The other is already breeding behind your dishwasher.
Learn about Cockroach ControlIt means evidence is likely, which is not the same thing. NCDA&CS states that most North Carolina homes over 10 to 15 years old will show some evidence of wood destroying insects, and houses here are far older than that. What matters is whether the activity is current, what the moisture readings say, and whether anything structural is involved.
If it is squirrels, yes, and the job is trapping plus closing the entry so the next one cannot follow. If it turns out to be bats, the timing is a legal matter: evictions and exclusions are prohibited from 1 May through 31 July statewide, except where the Wildlife Resources Commission approves it, because the young cannot fly. During that window the right work is inspection, planning and interior protection, then exclusion from 1 August.
Almost always. Soil treatment goes into the ground next to the foundation, crawl space work sits under the floor, and bait stations in a lawn are low and unobtrusive. That suits a district where visible exterior changes can attract review. Where something above ground is unavoidable, it is worth checking what applies to your block before the work starts.
Both are possible and the fix is not the same, so identification comes first. Carpenter ants excavate damp wood and leave coarse shavings; subterranean termites work from soil contact and leave mud and shelter tubes. Either way the porch post is telling you the wood is wet, and that is the part that needs solving.
Often within a couple of hours where it is genuinely urgent. Haymount is a hilltop district just west of downtown Fayetteville, and the technician arrives carrying the crawl space kit and the product rather than coming to look and quote, so the first visit normally settles it. Overnight and weekend cover is there for what cannot wait for morning.
Somebody reads the substructure first, whether that is a crawl space or the slab edge and bath trap, then writes down what it would cost. Nothing is owed for the looking.
